BOYS FOOTBALL PROGRAM 2008/09

FALL FOOTBALL (Two-a-Days)
• Aug. 18-20:  Three days of helmets-only conditioning
• Aug. 21:  Padded practice begins
• Practice times are 9 a.m.-noon; 3-6 p.m.
First game: 7 p.m. Sept. 5 Coronado High School During Season
• Sept. 5-Nov. 20
To create a sense of unity in the football program, varsity and frosh-soph teams will practice together. All Varsity players are expected to watch Thursday Frosh-Soph games (then have team dinner), and vice versa.
SPRING FOOTBALL
• May 12-June 13, 2008
Spring football is a period that CIF sanctions as the time when a football team may practice with no time limit for 15 practices. Please see the attached calendar for practice days and times.
• June 14-July 6, 2008:  Dead Period
CIF states that all football programs must delineate a weight-training and conditioning-only
dead period for three consecutive weeks between June 14-Aug. 24. These weeks that are indicated above are ideal times to schedule family vacations.
SUMMER FOOTBALL
• 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. July 7-August 8, 2008
Summer football will run for these five consecutive weeks during these times. All workouts/practices are mandatory. Players who miss practices will see playing time diminished. Times may change due to Passing League games
• 6:30- 8 a.m. Friday Workouts, North Montage Beach ramp.
All players are required to participate in all of these workouts.
• Team Building Fridays 7/25, 8/1, 8/8
After these Friday mornings workouts, we will engage in some team-building activities.
• Aug. 11-15: Late Summer off-week
This is an off week for everyone except those who need to make up workouts. This is also another ideal time to schedule a vacation.
OFF-SEASON
• Twice-weekly lifting when in another sport
LBHS Football firmly supports participation in other sports. The only requirement that must be met while participating in another sport is that athletes must lift at least twice a week. If the other sport has a lifting program, that will satisfy as meeting the requirement. The weight room will be open after school and in the morning from 6:30-7:30 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays for those in other sports who need to lift.
• 7th-period football if not in another sport
All football players not participating in another sport are required to be enrolled in 7th-period football class. The class runs from 2:30-4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. The class teaches conditioning and weight-training.
